Update from the 2024-2025 Leadership Metro South Cohort – “Education Day”

“To say we learned a few things on Education Day is an understatement! The Leadership Metro South cohort started the day at Massasoit Community College College (thank you Jennifer Holbrook for organizing!) where we heard from Dr Gail Gibson Sheffield and Ruben Barato Ph.D.. We were excited to hear the details of MassReconnect and MassEducate which makes Free Community College a reality for so many students! The tour of the Student Center and all the services offered for their students was quite impressive as well!
Next stop Southeastern Vocational Technical High School. Thank you to the Administration and Acting Principal Christina Guarini for welcoming us and hosting an amazing lunch in the school’s Café! Having the opportunity to chat with the impressive students at our tables over lunch was one of the highlights of the day. The students, with Vocational Supervisors Mary Koby and Jarrod Lussier, then took us on a tour of the school where we got to see their education in action. Quite impressive all around. These students graduate not only College ready, but workforce ready!
Our final stop was to the Boston Higashi School in Randolph, a school many of us had driven by for years but knew little about. Thank you Paul Fanning, Chief Development Officer and Heather Katz, Director of Training along with members of your amazing staff for the discussion around the Mission and Vision of the school. The work being done to educate and care for the students, all with Autism, is both impressive and heartwarming.
