October 2, 2026 – The Metro South Chamber of Commerce joined the Food Basket International team, community members, and supporters on Friday, October 2, to celebrate the grand opening and ribbon cutting of the international supermarket’s new Brockton location at 683 Belmont Street.
Located at the former Stop & Shop site near Brockton High School, Food Basket International brings a wide selection of international groceries, fresh produce, seafood, premium halal meats, and everyday essentials to the Brockton community. The new location builds on the success of the company’s original store in Lowell and provides an expanded shopping destination designed to serve the region’s diverse population.
Food Basket International offers products and ingredients representing cuisines and cultures from around the world, including South Asian, Middle Eastern, African, Caribbean, and Latin American communities. In addition to its grocery offerings, the Brockton location features a full-service halal butcher shop, seafood department, and fast-casual kitchen serving prepared halal meals.
We were joined by State Representative Bridget Plouffe and representatives from the Office of Senator Michael D. Brady, who each presented official citations to Food Basket International in recognition of the store’s grand opening and arrival in Brockton. Brockton Mayor Moises Rodrigues also presented a citation to the business. Deputy Chief of Staff Nelson Fernandes, Brockton City Councilor-at-Large Jeff Charnel, Brockton Economic Development Office – Dr. Eliza Wilson and Elijah Romulus – were also present to celebrate the occasion and welcome Food Basket International to the city.

The new store reflects the growing demand for culturally diverse food options in the Metro South region while also bringing new activity and investment to a previously vacant commercial space. The business held a soft opening in September before officially celebrating its grand opening with the community.
“We try to bring food from different parts of the world,” Food Basket International team member Alauddin Chowdhury told The Enterprise, emphasizing the company’s goal of creating a unique shopping experience with something for everyone.
Food Basket International’s arrival adds another locally accessible resource for Brockton residents who previously traveled outside the city to find certain international foods, spices, and seafood. The company says its mission extends beyond providing groceries, with an emphasis on building lasting relationships with the communities it serves through quality products, competitive prices, and a welcoming shopping experience.
The Metro South Chamber congratulates Food Basket International on its grand opening and welcomes the business to Brockton and the Metro South business community.
