The Chamber’s recent Good Day Metro South luncheon highlighted the Town of Sharon as part of a series of community days focused on Metro South regional economic activity. Event sponsor Nicole Long, CEO gave a brief presentation on the important services provided by Old Colony Elder Services during an interview segment with panel moderator Dan Trout, North Easton Savings Bank.
The event included an economic update panel with Sharon Town Administrator Fred Turkington, Sharon Economic Development Council past chair Robert Maidman, and Massachusetts Office of Business Development (MOBD) Southeast Regional Director Jennifer Menard. The panel shared key planning considerations for advancing economic development in Sharon. One-third of the town’s land is undevelopable – consisting of deeded conservation land, Borderland State Park, or wetlands unsuitable for construction. This unique geographic constraint has compelled the town to take a creative approach to commercial development, leading to projects like the Commonwealth’s newest Costco location which is part of the town’s new mixed-use development zone.
Following the economic update panel, Congressman Jake Auchincloss representing Massachusetts’ 4th District discussed challenges for New England businesses as the threat of tariffs on Canada become a reality. He talked about the need to preserve Medicaid for seniors, research funding for Universities in MA and spending on Higher Education in support of college students and the businesses that need them and want to hire them.
This event was sponsored by OCES – Old Colony Elder Services. Thank you to our event emcee Sue Joss, Brockton Neighborhood Health Center, and panel moderator Dan Trout, North Easton Savings Bank.
