Good Day Metro South: Sharon Edition
Please join us for a Good Day Metro South luncheon Friday, February 28th from 11:45am-1:30pm in Sharon. This event will take place at the stunning Sharon Community Center on Lake Massapoag and feature Congressman Jake Auchincloss. Hear from Sharon Town Administrator Fred Turkington, Sharon Economic Development Council past chair Robert Maidman, and MOBD Southeast Regional Director Jennifer Menard.

Congressman Jake Auchincloss is serving his third term representing the Massachusetts Fourth. In addition to his work on the committees for Transportation & Infrastructure and the Select Committee on Strategic Competition Between the United States and China, his areas of focus include healthcare, clean energy, gun violence, and building a strong middle class.
Jake was born and raised in Newton, Massachusetts, the son of a surgeon and a scientist. They showed him the value of curiosity and hard work. From the moment he could read, Jake loved American history.
After graduating from Harvard College, Jake joined the Marines. He commanded infantry in Afghanistan and special operations in Panama.
Upon returning home, Jake continued his service as a three-term city councilor in Newton. While working at City Hall on nights and weekends, Jake built a career in business, running product development at both a Fortune 100 insurance company and a cybersecurity startup. He has degrees in Economics and Finance from Harvard University and MIT Sloan.
Today, Jake lives in Newton with his wife, Michelle, and their children, Teddy, Grace, and Audrey (along with their Labrador Retriever, Donut). Visit auchincloss.house.gov to learn more.
Fred Turkington has been serving as the Town Administrator of Sharon, Massachusetts, since August 2014.
In this role, he oversees the town’s daily operations, working closely with the Select Board, department heads, and various committees to implement policies and manage municipal services.
Turkington’s career in public administration spans several decades. After earning a bachelor’s degree from Bates College in Maine followed by a master’s degree in Public Affairs from the University of Connecticut, he served as a Presidential Management Fellow at the U.S. Department of Justice. He then held positions as the first Assistant Town Administrator in Vernon, Connecticut, for eight and a half years, Chief Administrative Officer of Canton, Connecticut, for nine and a half years, and the first Town Administrator in Wayland, Massachusetts, for eight years.
Throughout his career, Turkington has been recognized for his commitment to public service and his open-door policy, encouraging citizen engagement and transparency in local government. His leadership in Sharon reflects a dedication to maintaining the town’s high quality of life, managing public resources effectively, and fostering community involvement. Rob Maidman is a 13-year member of the Sharon Planning Board, former Chair of the Economic Development Committee, long-term Council on Aging Advisory Board Chair, and is an adjunct appointee to several other town committees. Now retired, he spent his career in international trade and logistics consulting. He has lived in Sharon for 27 years and delighted to be able to help improve the quality of life for all residents. Jennifer Menard is the Regional Director for the Southeast Region at the Massachusetts Office of Business Development (MOBD) which covers all of Barnstable County, and a portion of both Plymouth and Bristol Counties. She connects businesses with resources to support growth and economic development. Previously, Jennifer was Vice President of Economic & Business Development at Bristol Community College, where she advanced offshore wind initiatives, workforce training, and diversity programs. With over 15 years of experience in economic development, she has led regional business recruitment efforts and played a key role in developing the Massachusetts offshore wind sector.
