Earlier this month, the Metro South Chamber of Commerce hosted a special Brockton Edition of Good Day Metro South at the Shaw’s Center. The event united business leaders, public officials, and community members to celebrate Brockton’s growth and share future plans – including the return of professional baseball.
Mayor Robert F. Sullivan delivered a compelling State of the City address, “Brockton: Where Progress Meets Possibility” highlighting major initiatives like the new Brockton Public Safety Building, set to open this September.
Mayor Sullivan also spotlighted urban revitalization and housing developments including the Lincoln School Senior Housing, Merian on Main, Hotel Grayson, and the Brockton South. These projects aim to boost foot traffic, support local businesses, and modernize downtown and beyond.
Infrastructure updates include converting Warren Avenue to two-way traffic, expanding electric bus service, investing in South Coast Rail, and exploring redevelopment of the CSX Rail Yard to unlock 30 acres of opportunity.
The event celebrated the return of the Brockton Rox, now under new ownership led by Red Sox Hall-of-Famer Jim Rice. Attendees received game tickets and commemorative shirts ahead of Opening Day on May 16.
Other announcements included the new $7.6 million Mary Cruise Kennedy Senior Center, the re-opening of the War Memorial Building, and plans for the Brockton Fairgrounds, VA Medical Center housing, and life science development at Lovett Brook.

Local author Rob Peters introduced his new book The Small Business CEO’s Playbook. “I highly recommend entrepreneurs and small business owners read this book and benefit from the thoughtful and profitable content contained within. It’s a very enjoyable read full of great lessons, advice, and resources. The style of writing and format of each chapter make it very useful as a reference guide while the reader takes action toward building a more responsive and profitable business” said Metro South Chamber President & CEO, Chris Cooney.
Event sponsor, South Shore Bank President & CEO Jim Dunphy shared updates on Leadership Metro South, now accepting applications for its 2025 cohort (deadline: May 2). This immersive program equips leaders with the knowledge and tools to address regional challenges and opportunities through themed sessions on DEI, education, economic development, and more.
