In July, the Metro South Chamber Ambassador Team bid a heartfelt farewell to long-time volunteer Brenda Carrens, Community Programs Director at Old Colony Elder Services (OCES). OCES — the largest provider of in-home and community-based services for older adults and people living with disabilities in Southeastern Massachusetts honored Brenda as she retired after an incredible 20 years of service.
Throughout her career at OCES, Brenda played a key role in the growth and success of the organization. She worked with the Greater Plymouth County’s Retired Seniors Volunteer Program (RSVP), Family Caregiver Support, Healthy Living, Money Management, Development, and Volunteer programs. In her most recent role as Community Programs Director, she oversaw the Nutrition, Volunteer, Healthy Living, and Family Caregiver Support operations, managing dedicated supervisors and managers across these critical areas.
Brenda’s commitment to helping others extends far beyond her professional role. She has been a Metro South Chamber of Commerce Ambassador since 2013, and is always one of the first to volunteer her time. Known for arriving early to events and staying late, she assists with everything from setting up and cleaning up to welcoming attendees and supporting Chamber staff throughout the program. Her dedication, reliability, and warm presence have made her a valued part of the Chamber family for over a decade.
“Brenda has been a shining example of service, leadership, and generosity within the Chamber and the community. We are deeply grateful for her years of dedication and wish her every happiness in this well-deserved next chapter.” – Chris Cooney, President & CEO, Metro South Chamber of Commerce
In addition to her volunteer work as a Chamber Ambassador, Brenda has also been a lifelong volunteer for schools, charities, and community organizations. At OCES, she gave her time to the Money Management and Meals on Wheels programs, and served on the Cancer Care Community Advisory Board (CABbies), a fundraising group supporting cancer patients.
“Brenda has made a tremendous impact on many individuals and families through her tireless efforts, leadership, and dedication to OCES and the community over the past 20 years,” said Nicole Long, CEO of OCES. “Congratulations Brenda! OCES will miss you and we wish you all the best in your retirement!”
A Taunton resident for 25 years, Brenda leaves behind a legacy of service, compassion, and community spirit. The Metro South Chamber is grateful for her years of dedication and wishes her happiness and fulfillment in this next chapter of life.
